Talk to an engineer

Engineers who stay to run what they build

We build business systems for New Zealand businesses, host them in the region you choose, and keep them running.

A business should own the systems it depends on

Most companies run on software they rent, hosted somewhere they can't name, supported by someone who has never seen it. We think the systems a business depends on should be owned by that business, run on infrastructure it can point to, and looked after by the people who built them. So that is how we work: we recommend the smallest thing that solves the problem, build it on mainstream technology, register it in your name, and stay to operate it.

Four rules on every engagement

01

Start with the problem

We don't lead with platforms. We find out what is not working and what it costs, then recommend the smallest change that fixes it — sometimes nothing.

02

Build what fits

WordPress when WordPress fits. Rust when performance matters. Oracle Cloud because the price and the local regions are right. The reasons are written down.

03

You own what we build

Code, data, accounts, domain, documentation. Registered to your company, readable by any competent engineer, and yours to take elsewhere.

04

Stay to run it

We host, patch, monitor and support what we build. The engineer who designed the system is the one who answers when it alerts.

The people you'll work with

The people who scope the work do the work and stay on afterwards. No account managers between you and the engineer.

Kal, Design Lead at Inventient

Kal Jeram

Design & Applications Director

Kal leads design and application development. He starts from the brief and the people who will use the system, and designs toward outcomes rather than aesthetics. Most of his work is native iOS and Android apps and Svelte web applications, where design and engineering have to work as one. He takes products from first sketch to app store release.

Jay, Development Lead at Inventient

Jay Calder

Infrastructure & Security Director

Jay leads infrastructure and security. He designs and runs the hosting platform our clients' systems depend on, including the edge network and web application firewall that sits in front of every property, and the automated detection behind it. His work is making business applications fast, safe and reliable in production, and keeping them that way.

Hiraku Walley, Growth & Partnerships Lead at Inventient

Hiraku Walley

Growth & Partnerships Lead

Hiraku leads growth and partnerships, and is usually the first person you'll talk to. A former senior podiatrist and clinic leader, he diagnoses before he prescribes. Ten-plus years in acting and entertainment taught him to read a room, and his bespoke travel itineraries earned 900+ reviews. He listens first, then shapes the right fit for each business.

Talk to an engineer

No obligation. A conversation about what you run and the smallest sensible change to it.
